DECA Month is celebrated in November of every year. It exists as a celebration of the leadership, innovation, and impact that DECA members have on their various communities. Across the world, the roughly 300,000 DECA members are invited to celebrate their Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO). DECA Month is also a time to highlight the organization’s mission, achievements, and influence in creating emerging leaders and entrepreneurs. During November, DECA members are called to celebrate different different levels of the organization:
Celebrate Chapters - At this level, DECA Chapters do
a multitude of activities. This looks different for every chapter. Some chapters host professional workshops, networking events, or membership campaigns. A lot of chapters use the month of November as a great opportunity for recruitment. Other chapters will engage in community service events to do good in the world with the abilities that DECA has instilled within them. Lastly, chapters often hold multi-media campaigns: newsletters, Instagram activities, and school announcements.
Celebrate Membership - DECA Month is a great time for DECA members to share their personal DECA stories and achievements. Many DECA members will post with hashtags like #DECAMonth. This is also a great time for DECA members to thank their chapter leadership. By celebrating DECA at the membership level, the organization is enriched with a sense of growth and pride.
Celebrate Associations - At the association level, State Officer Teams lead the celebration. It is a great time for the SOTs to focus on advocacy, networking, and sponsorships/partnerships. Many states will host statewide initiatives to bring multiple chapters together, such as a Fall Leadership Conference. Additionally, one of the main goals of the SOTs are to unify members across the high schools and colleges.
In conclusion, DECA Month is more than a series of events. It is a campaign that unites members through a shared sense of purpose and pride. It serves as a reminder that DECA is more than just an organization, it is a community that empowers leaders.
